Geography

Ibiza is the western island of the Balearics Islands. It is surrounded by Cap Falcó in the South, Pla d'en Serra in the North, Cap Jueu in the West, and Cap Campanitx in the East. It has a surface area of 572 km2, it is the third island as far as surface area is concerned, its coast is 210 km long and the maximum interior distances are 41 km from north to south and just 20 km from east to west.

There are cliffs and sand beaches all along the coast, there are 56 beaches registered and some of them can't only be reached by boat. The two more important features in its coast are the Badia de Portmany, in the West, and the Badia d'Evissa, in the East, where, thanks to a major protection from the winds, we find the main port of the island and the capital (Vila).

We also have places of enormous landscape interest such as the area of Es Amunts, in the nortwest, the cliffs of Sant Miquel or the Mala Costa in Sant Joan, in the north of the island. We can clearly distinguish four relief units on the map all oriented from the northeast to the southeast, i.e. Els Amunts, Pla d'Eivissa, Vall de Santa Eulalia and Ses Salines.. The main, the mountain massif of Els Amunts, outstanding in height from the others, is a calcareous block in the southeast-northeast direction. It acts as a thermal screen against the north winds and it has two peaceful and agricultural depressions, the valleys of Corona and Aubarca. The island roof is the Atalia de Sant Joseph of 475 m high.
